Fewer than half of Americans are satisfied with how much they have traveled during their lives. That's according to a survey by Talker Research, which talked to 2,000 adults in the US. It also found that almost seven out of every 10 Americans feel that they haven't seen enough of the world compared to others. Thirty-five percent said these feelings come from travel posts on social media by friends and family. Another 32% said conversations with others about travel make them feel like they haven't traveled enough. Among younger people, the effect of social media is stronger. Among participants in Generation Z — people born between the late 1990s and early 2000s — 47% said travel content by influencers and on YouTube makes them feel dissatisfied with their own travel experiences. And 55% said social media makes them feel like they are "behind" in life in general! More than a quarter of both those in Generation Z and millennials — people born between the early 1980s and early 1990s — said they are embarrassed by their lack of travel experience. When asked to explain why they don't travel more, the most common answer was the cost of travel, which was named by 63% of participants. Work was named by 19%, another 19% said family, and 18% said they were tired of planning things. Americans still want to travel though, and 44% said they want to visit somewhere new in the next five years. Although 32% of Americans have never left the US, just 12% said they don't plan to do so — and the average person hopes to see 22 different countries. The places Americans said they most want to see included Japan at 24%, Paris at 24%, Greece at 19% and Australia at 17% — while 5% said they want to visit Antarctica!
