If you celebrate Christmas, you may be getting ready to do some shopping — if you haven't started already! A lot of people in the US have begun thinking about what gifts they'll buy for Christmas. And according to a new survey by polling company Gallup, on average, they expect to spend more than $1,000 on Christmas presents this year. That's about the same amount that people in the US planned to spend last year. However, many lower earners admitted that they're going to have to spend less in 2025. Americans in households earning less than $50,000 said they expect to spend $651 on gifts this year. That's about $115 less than last year. In fact, 31% of Americans said they plan to spend less than $500 this year. The last few months of the year can be very expensive for families in the US. Many celebrate Thanksgiving at the end of November, and then Christmas about a month later. And around the world, people have seen the cost of living increase. But in many places, wages haven't increased at the same rate. A different survey from the website OfferUp even found that more and more people will be looking for secondhand presents to give to their friends, family and colleagues this year. Fortunately, the survey also found that a lot of people said they'd be happy to receive a secondhand gift!
